On this episode, The Shift Show enters the world of evolutionary psychology, and how the oldest parts of our brain impact how we think, feel, and behave.

Andrea McTague and Zac Erickson take us WAY back, discussing the origins of the human brain. In understanding the difference between the “lizard brain” and the more primate specific areas, we can begin to understand why we think and feel the way that we do.

Evolutionarily speaking, the lizard brain is the oldest part of the brain. Most vertebrate creatures on the planet have a similarly functioning area of their brain, and it is responsible for keeping us alive. However, that doesn’t mean it helps us work at our best. Having a healthy relationship with your lizard brain is key to living your best life.
